XRD/XRF
Lab Documentation
The X-ray equipment chosen for use onboard the JOIDES Resolution provides fluorescence and diffraction data. An Applied Research Laboratory 8400 duel spectrometer XRF provides whole-rock analysis of major element oxides and the trace elements V, Cr, Ni, Cu, Zn, Nb, Zr, Rb, Sr, Y, Ba, and Ce. A Philips ADP 3520 XRD and associate software allows for powder diffraction analysis of minerals and rock powders with software that has peak-matching, mineral and other chemical compound identification facilities.
