Core Samples

Core Repositories

During ODP (1985-2003), cores were distributed among four core repositories. The Kochi Core Repository (KCC) was added during the early years of IODP. The East Coast and West Coast Repositories closed in September 2008.

Bremen Core Repository

The Bremen Core Repository (BCR), located at the University of Bremen in Bremen, Germany, housed ODP cores from the Atlantic Ocean and the Black and Mediterranean Seas.

East Coast Repository

The East Coast Repository (ECR), located at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory in Palisades, New York, USA, housed DSDP and ODP cores from the Atlantic and Southern Oceans and the Black, Caribbean, and Mediterranean Seas.

Gulf Coast Repository

The Gulf Coast Repository (GCR), located at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas, USA, housed ODP cores collected from the Pacific and Indian Oceans.

West Coast Repository

The West Coast Repository (WCR), located at Scripps Institution of Oceanography in La Jolla, California, USA, housed DSDP cores from the Pacific and Indian Oceans and the Red Sea.
